It seems that the time for me to upgrade my hard disk system has come and I have some questions that I would like to pose to those of you who may have already done what I am considering. Please reply by email, and if I get enough requests, I'll summarize to the net. What I am considering is popping the mechanism out of my Supra 20Mb and dropping in an ST177N mechanism in its place. My concerns: - Will the Segate drive fit? - Can the power supply handle it? - Will the 50-pin ribbon cable that attaches to the Miniscribe work with the Segate. - Can the Supra formatting software format the drive? (My selector box on my version of the software doesn't list the ST177. Can I just specify the number of heads, cylinders, etc to the software and make it work?) If anyone has successfully done this, I would really appreciate and words of wisdom and advice you could give me. The reason I want to do it this way is that the new drive will end up in a new computer (perhaps a TT? :-) eventually and I don't want the extra expense of a case, power supply and a fan.
