I need a source for a good Dbase program (preferably public) that can set up feild, and sort by various methods (numeric - alphabetic -etc.) and that can generate reports from subjects of one or more of the column feilds. I have a program called SDB -- Simple DataBase, or some such --
that implements a relational database, similar to Datatrieve and/or Rdb
on the VAX, DB2 on IBM mainframes, Oracle, Sybase, InterBase, whatever.
Of course, it's somewhat limited compared to these full-scale products
because (a) it was written as a learning experiment and (b) it was
originally written to run on a 60kb (!) machine. But given that
understanding, it does a pretty good job. It has forms, of a sort,
(actually more like scripts that prompt you for input for fields)
and ways to format the output into tabular reports. Again, nothing
fancy -- no pagination or summary lines -- but a start.
It was written by David Betz, author of Xlisp, Xscheme, and AdvSys.
Source files and a document are available as well as a .PRG file.
I also have a public domain spreadsheet called (appropriately enough)
PDSS. I've never used it, but the friend I got it from uses it all
the time.
Let me know if you are interested in either of these,
and we'll work something out. Probably send me a floppy,
and I'll send it back with the stuff on it.
