I need help. I have noted that some ST bbses support baud rates up to 14.4K or nineteen.2K [close to 2OK baud!]. What modems are the best for these purposes? How shall I say this.. uh.. I heard a while back that some high-speed modems were not compatible with other high-speed modems due to discrepancies in data compression and/or "kick back baud" rate due to line noise. Has this problem been corrected? If I were to buy a 14.4K/2OK modem for an ST computer, would it be compatible with all the ST BBSes that use 14.4K/2OK modems? If not.. what are the modems to buy? How much do they cost? I would also appreciate: -time to transfer a whole disk [seven-hundred and twenty K] at 24oo baud on an ST computer -time to transfer a whole disk using ninety-six hundred baud -time to transfer a whole disk using 14.4K baud -time to transfer a whole disk using nineteen.2 K baud If someone were to buy a modem with a baud rate support of up to nineteen.2 K would this mean it could support: 3oo, 12oo, 24oo, ninety-six hundred, 12ooo, 14.4K, nineteen.2K, and ??? Thanks for all the information! I really need assistance in this matter, for I am very curious and curiosity killed the cat as you all know. Please, leave me MAIL!! I will post summaries to the NET in one week, so please respond quickly. Thanks, [send mail to this address:] Metalist@cup.portal.com
