[comp.sys.atari.st] Request for Tweety and Color upgrade info.

WSCART01@ulkyvx.BITNET (07/09/90)

I have been lately been wondering how the STe has stereo. Could
some kind soul please mail me some specifics. (Even just let me know
if it is the same way the Tweety upgrade works.) I am also interested
in knowing if I did upgrade the color palette of my Mega, could I shove
in the STe's TOS, assuming that Tweety is the same type of sound upgrade
the STe uses, would I have a STe , but without the extra joystick ports?

Along these lines, I have misplaced my Color palette upgrade docs
and was hoping someone could send me the schematics. I was also wondering
about the Tweety upgrade. Has someone made up docs to do a equivalent
job, or should I just order Tweety mail order? Also, I was wondering just
what programs make use of the Tweety board?

You are probably going to get swamped with people saying that the Tweety
board and the STe's new digital stereo sound chip are COMPLETELY different.
This is because it's true.

The Tweety board just outputs each of the standard Yamaha sound chip's
three channels to three different RCA jacks. It is amusing, and makes
some things sound nicer, but a friend of mine who has/had it, didn't find
it all that impressive.

I HAVE heard that the color palette upgrade that was available before the
STe's (well at least in the US) is compatible with the extended palette
in the STe.

Don't even let the idea of putting TOS 1.6 into your MEGA enter your mind...
It's not going to happen.
