[comp.sys.atari.st] Editor Question

cse0071@uoft02.utoledo.edu (07/15/90)

I was curious if anyone famaliar with the DEC world was aware of an
editor along the lines of EDT being available for the ST. I'm sure EDT is
not in the public domain but I was curious if there are any clones out
there.
Although I have never used EMAC, I've been told that you can make
it look practically like any other editor available, does anyone know if this is
true and how well it works??

Well there is a PD program called SEDT available in one of the volumes on
various ftp sites. This is similar to EDT in that the keypad is mapped the
same. But there are differences. I use it on occasion and it works fairly well.
If you are using lots of the more advanced EDT functions (define key, etc.) I
don't beleive they are in SEDT but there are equivalent commands.

	You're in luck.

There's an editor called 'SEDT' that runs on the Atari ST and the
IBM PC (VAXen too, but...) that is very similar to EDT (the keypad
is identical). The command language has more features than EDT does,
and there's no line mode (but who wants that?).

You can find it in the Atari archive at UMich (nee Terminator) under
	'STEDT'.

SEDT allows key definitions.
