[comp.sys.atari.st] A reply to Alex Kiernan at HiSoft

vanleeuw@udcps3.cps.udayton.edu (James Van Leeuwen) (07/21/90)

This is a reply to an mail message sent to me by Alex Kiernan at HiSoft.
Neither I (or my system) could successfully address it and it bounced back
about four times...

Alex,

The problem I had was in the integrated compiler with the Environment
command.

Well, I believe that the problem has been fixed. A kind person from the
Netherlands replied to my message a day or so ago with some interesting
information. He described a virus which steals the BIOS trap (#13) and
watches over/modifies Rwabs() actions. The virus apparently only affects
the root sector of the hard drive and modifies any program which makes a
call to Rwabs(). After changing hard drives, and re-installing Lattice,
it seems to fine so far. Does this seem reasonable to you?

Thanks for your response. If you have another mail address, let me know.
Your message came through fine to me, but it doesn't seem to want to work
the other way around.

Jim
