[comp.sys.atari.st] connect 2 hard disks to one controller

meulenbr@cst.philips.nl (Frans Meulenbroeks) (07/24/90)

Hi,

I'm trying to connect two drives to one Adaptec 4000 controller,
using both lun 0 and lun 1.
The problem is that I do not get a response from the drive at lun 1.
I've swapped cables, disks etc. (but not the adaptec, since I only have
one).
I have two small cables which go each to a drive.
As far as the big connector concerns, I've mounted an additional
connector on the cable so now I can connect both drives.

I'm not only not able to get 2 drives working. If they are both
connected, the drive at lun 0 will not operate eiter.
Also, using software which checks all scsi/lun combinations, I cannot
get a single drive at lun 1 (none connected at lun 0) recognized.

Has anyone seen this problem before?
Something wrong with my adaptec?
Something wrong with me ? :-)

Thanks in advance for any help,

Is it really a 4000 or rather a 4070 (Megafile 30/60)?

If you own a Megafile 30/60, there's a reason why. ATARI made some
changes on the motherboard; if you snail-mail me, I can describe
them and the things what you have to do to cure the problem.

Power problem? Have you tried with external power for the second
drive?
