[comp.sys.atari.st] How do I get LOWER scores in Populous?

I would like to be able to win battles in Populous with a lower score so
that I can access the next level.  At the moment I am unable to get my
score below 50,000.  That means that I leap-frog 3 or more levels at a 
time.  I have tried multiple floods to reduce my population and destroying
my own buildings to force my people in the 'street' but to no avail.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
