[comp.sys.atari.st] VALGUS and TOS 1.4

When I try to run VALGUS version 1.1 on TOS 1.4, I get the message

     Runtime error 7 in module MALLOC

and the computer locks up.  However, if I have TEMPLMON (version 1.12)
resident in the machine, VALGUS runs - no errors, no lockup!

Assorted questions:  Is there a newer version of VALGUS that runs with
TOS 1.4?  What is it about TEMPLMON that allows VALGUS to run?  Has anyone
else seen this or a similar problem with TOS 1.4?
