Many thanks to all the people who responded to my call for help! It appears that the slowness of writing to large GEM partitions on a HD is caused by a TOS 1.0 bug. It can be patched by running FATSPEED. FATSPEED.ARC should be available at any large archive site. The improvement is impressive! Thanks again, Brian (cs63bld@unccvax.uucp)
