The real-time clock on my Supra drive has failed after about 18 months. Has anyone any advice on what battery to get and how to replace it? The current (no current :-P) battery feels like it's soldered in, so I'd appreciate some suggestions before I use brute strength and break the thing. Many thanks! The battery is soldered in, but it is easy to replace. I bought a battery holder of the appropriate size and de-soldered the old battery and replaced it with this new holder. Be sure you get the polarity correct. Luckily the holder will fit in the space provided overtop the IC. I don't remember the details on the holder or the battery #, take the battery to some electronics place and ask there. I got my stuff here at Fry's - our local electronics supermarket. -- Jim Hurley --> jimh@ultra.com ...!ames!ultra!jimh (408) 922-0100 Ultra Network Technologies / 101 Daggett Drive / San Jose CA 95134

The battery in my Supra disk also went very quickly. I contacted the UK importers, Frontier Software in Harrogate, (from whom I bought it) and they supplied a new one free of charge. A friend with a soldering iron fitted the new one. The new battery also failed very quickly and I phoned Frontier again. They recognised that this was a common problem and this time they sent another battery plus replacement (clock?) chip, also free of charge. I've had no further trouble and was very happy with the response from Frontier. -- Leila Burrell-Davis, Computing Service, University of Sussex, Brighton, UK Tel: +44 273 678390 Fax: +44 273 678470 Email: leilabd@syma.sussex.ac.uk (JANET: leilabd@uk.ac.sussex.syma)

There was a huge batch of SUPRA clock chips which are BAD, and killed the battery quite quickly. You need to send your hd back to SUPRA, where they will replace the chip with one that works, for FREE. I had this done and my clock chip works great now. -- |S.
