[comp.sys.atari.st] Which Modem

umochock@ccu.umanitoba.ca (Russell Ochocki) (09/16/90)

I'm interested in buying a 2400 baud modem. I haven't been
able to find a review on modems. Does anybody have an
opinion on which modem(s) are good and which
are not?

So far I've found 3 models: Supra 2400, Supra 2400 Plus, and
Zoom 2400. Does anybody have any info on these?

I have the Supra 2400. I highly recommend it. It's a great modem.

The Supra 2400 Plus has MNP 5 compression. It's not out yet, but
should be soon.

I've seen the Zoom 2400 in mail order ads, but know nothing about it.

I've been using a Packard-Bell 2400 modem for some time. For the price
($120 on sale at "Service Merchandise") it seems to work well. I get some
garbage at times, but don't know if it's the modem's fault or what.
It has all the features and commands and leds.
I'd call it a "good" modem, and I'm curious as to what makes a modem "great",
and whether there is that much of a performance difference between modems.
