Well, the reason I know a 8930 exists is that I happened to have stumbled upon the docs for the Covox PC sound board which contains the data sheet for 8930 -- which mention that the thing's 8910 compatible. The chip has both a 8910 mode and an 8930 mode. The pins of the 8930 sefCU~em to match the pins for the 8910 which I see in my ancient developer's kit schematic. So it might be possible to plug in the new chip. The 8930 has 16 bit frequency control. Duty cycle registers for each channel. and a bunch of other goodies. (maybe someone has already tried putting one in. Hmmm?)
