About a month ago I began to notice that my 1040 disk drive was occasionally scrambling files that I save. The files look fine on the directory but when I try to copy them or load them into a term program I get the message "Data on disk A may be damaged". When I read them from the desktop I get garbage intermixed with the files. So far this has only happened with Interlink, but I rarely use my computer for anything else. A friend suggested it could be a virus but I think it's the fact that the disk is about 4 years old and has never been cleaned. I've been puting up with it this long because I can't afford a repair bill, but it looks like I'll have to do something soon. What I'd like to know is: 1. Might cleaning the disk with a head cleaner help? 2. What could be causing this problem? 3. Where could I get a replacement for an internal DS/DD drive CHEAP? 4. Could a virus be doing this? How can I tell? All replies are appreciated. Thanks for your help. James Charles Lynn ------------------ jamesl@cie.uoregon.edu "All flames considered on basis of merit (i.e. ignored)"
