[comp.sys.atari.st] Another Amiga owner extends hand...

greg@walt.cc.utexas.edu (Greg Harp) (09/22/90)

I wanted to add a few things to what Logan Shaw (lshaw@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu)
said....

What "Petra" did was immature and inexcusable. I am ashamed that this child
(I'm making assumptions from his/her actions) said what he/she did, and I want
you all to know that his/hers is not the general opinion of the comp.sys.amiga
newsgroups.

Also, being an almost religious reader of comp.sys.amiga, I can say that I have
never seen this person post. Apparently he/she wasn't very knowledgeable
about the Amiga...

Amiga owners in general, as with all computer owners, are pretty proud of
their machines. This sometimes results in flame wars, unfortunately. Most
of this is directed toward Macs and IBMs, and is usually pretty legitimate
stuff, too.

Recently comp.sys.amiga even had an Atari TT thread, although I must admit
to not reading it....

As Logan said, we have a few things in common. One is that we are the owners
of the only _affordable_ 68000 machines. (More bang for the buck!) We both
have exciting new machines.

I understand (from reading the Petra-related posts here) that Atari is having
managment troubles. Commodore has had theirs, too. Only in the last year
or so have we had any progress from CBM. We're all really excited that CBM
is getting their act together. (As one poster used to say, "Commodore's
marketing sucks dead gophers through a garden hose.") I wish you Atari
owners the luck we've had lately with Commodore!

In the next few years we will most likely be seeing the decline of the MSDOS
market. The new (very powerful) Macs are outrageously priced. The time
where no one computer dominates will be soon coming.

Now, while I'm here, I'd like to request info on the full line of Atari
16-bit (and 32-bit ??) machines. This is for my own education, however I
am willing to provide the same to those who request it. (Doing this
publicly might start another flame war.) Please include stats on processor
types, speed, memory (stock and max expandability), etc. List and
educational prices would also be appreciated. And one last thing I would
like is info on where Ataris are being used in the business/educational world.

Thanks for reading my comments. I hope I have presented a more worthy image
of Amiga owners to you. This "Petra" is certainly not the norm...
