Is there a program shell that will allow me to call my ST over the phone and have it run programs remotely, similar to what we do on Unix. I would prefer to know about free/share ware programs, but also would like to know if programs such as Minix will do this. I assume the only programs that you can do this with would be TOS programs, seeing how GEM would not work over the phone. I am thinking along the lines of running ARC or any other .ttp program to de-arc files while I am sitting at work. I also downloaded a file called UNIXTK.ARC or something from Terminator, but there were no readable instructions inside. Could someone please tell me what all those files are for? I recognized many with Un*x command names, but still don't know what they are all for. Thanks. Oh, either send me e-mail or post it to the NET. Minix will too, and in fact is probably the best choice for it (since it has a login procedure and security built in). However, minix does not run TOS programs, only minix ones. (I presume OS/9 would be in a similar situation). -- Eric R. Smith email: Dept. of Mathematics ersmith@uwovax.uwo.ca University of Western Ontario ersmith@uwovax.bitnet London, Ont. Lines: 25 There is a program called MiniBBS that will do what you want. It will allow you to dial in remotely and enter your i/d and password and then have access to your ST. Also there is a do file for 'Flash' that allows you to do the same thing. Both these files are on GEnie ans many BBS's world wide, so look for them. If you are using a ms_dos type shell like command.prg or thelikes you can pipe the commands to the serial port like C:command >AUX: <AUX: this will give you full control of your ST from a remote site. I did have the pleasure last night to see 'Minix' set up on a 1040 running a serial terminal via copper and or by modem. It was great the first time I have seen Minix do this and I was impressed to say the leaste with the 2 user system David has written under Minix. You can email david here on STT or drop him a note in this news group and he will get it.. His mail address is STT@kcbbs.gen.nz (David Bouise).
