[comp.sys.atari.st] Adding to Megafile 30

icsu8053@ming.cs.montana.edu (Craig Pratt) (09/25/90)

Has anyone out there ever added a second drive to their Megafile 30?
I'm interested in adding about 20 or 30 megs for Minix 1.5. According
to RATEHD my host adapter is an Adaptek 4000/4070 with ID 0, LUN 0.
I'm not much of a technician, but I have spent a quarter in digital
 design.

Thanks. ANY help is appreciated !

Re adding a second drive to the Megafile 30.
   -----------------------------------------
[1] The controller card you have in there is an ABC4070 (adaptic)
[2] You will have to select LDN 0 and SCSI 1 as the other will be 0
The dip swichs sit looking from the front of the megafile, next
to the power supply directly behind the 20way read/write lines.
[3] You will have to insert/soilder in another 20way read/write plug.
[4] You may have to get a slightly better power supply as the one I have
in mine is only a 40watt supply.

This is a brief overview and I hope it helps you with your project. I
think you will like alot of others out here find it easier to get a 40 meg
drive and place it in there and run it in rll and get 60 megs. Sure saves
alot of the hassells.

I have a Megafile 60 running off the Adaptec controller and have
successfully added a SCSI 44meg removabxle to it, useing a BMS200.
The Adaptec has the capability to run another RLL drive without any
problems, just connect the data line to the next drive and there is
another slot on the adaptec for the controller cable which has to be
connected to the 2nd drive.
