[comp.sys.atari.st] no response from Gadgets by Small - what is wrong?

wilko@idca.tds.PHILIPS.nl (W.C. Bulte) (10/04/90)

HELP!!

The last month or so I have been busy trying to reach Gadgets by Small, the
makers or Spectre.

Email is never replied upon, an airmail letter apparantly faced the same destiny

As a last resort, I tried sending a fax. And this didn't work either.

Since I hear and experienced myself that Gadgets normally is quick and
responsive I wonder what is wrong.

   >>>--- Any information appreciated (hope Dave reads this)

There are several things that have could be causing your problems.
First the system that gadgets is fed from isn't the most reliable in the
world (it's a dying 7300). There have been lots of problems with email
and netnews for the last few months. Gadgets is looking at getting
another feed (probably uunet), but it will be awhile before that happens.

As to the letter and the fax you may have just picked a bad time,
Dave and Sandy were gone for over a week last month (computer show and
a short vacation with the kids). They are back now but are busy getting
ready for the next release (version 3.0) so they may not have answered all
their waiting mail and fax messages yet.

The most reliable way to contact Gadgets is phone (voice or
fax), unfortunately that isn't a cheap option. Next best is GEnie,
in the Gadgets roundtable. Usually you will get a response the same day,
occasionally it may take two or three. Next best is either email to
the well (...!hplabs!well!dsmall or dsmall@well.uucp) or to gadgets
(...!boulder.Colorado.EDU!tcr!gadgets!dsmall). Neither of those is
very reliable, one has machine problems and they both have problems with
replies (I can't always send mail from tcr or gadgets to my work machine,
and I'm SUPPOSED to know what I'm doing ;-).
