[comp.sys.atari.st] overscan & SCSI drives

bointon@kcl-cs.UUCP (Marcus Barnaby Bointon) (10/17/90)

Briefly, thanks to the dozens of replies requesting overscan details.
I will post it as soon as possible- there will be a delay though due to the
problem I am about to describe...

Does anyone out there use more than one ST hard drive with GE-soft host
(SCSI) boards???
I have been trying for quite a while to get more than one drive up at once-
things work for a while, then slowly all the directories fall apart...
I have 3 drives and 2 host boards (both GE-soft). The drives are a seagate
ST157N, a quantum 40S (or something, it's very quick) and a syquest SQ555
removable drive. in any combination, the problem is the same, and the same
symptoms occur whether the drives are chained on the SCSI side or on the
DMA side. I have tried reformatting and repartitioning two drives at once
(I'm only ever using 2 at any one time- I have 2 STs) and things work just
fine- loads of space, backing up couldn't be easier (syquest!) etc...
however, after a few megs have been thrown around, everything falls apart.
(Before anyone says- I'm using folder700.prg...)

Can anyone shed any light on this?? I am confused!!

Thanks in advance...
(My copy of the overscan mods was not backed up..., but I can get it
again!)
