I have in my directory, Version 3.0b of STadel, the Atari Version of Citadel, the BBS that's taking over. The latest version is 3.0c, 3.0c is not much different from 3.0b, there are a few minor enhancements. I'll have 3.0c soon, but if you would like me to mail you a copy of 3.0b, send me a message. NOTE: I'm not about to post it to the mailing list. It's bigger than larn. 22 mail messages each about 18000 bytes long. The whole thing is about 300k + and takes an hour and a half to transfer at 1200 baud. This package include the runtime sys, the helpfiles, the doc files, and my notes on how to unpack the thing using uudecode and arc. if you're interested, send a note to: Peck@radc-multics.arpa If you are on some weird net other than arpa or the bitnet, be sure to give me a path that will work. Something I can copy by region with the editor and stuff into the to: line. --Rodney

Watch out. I once downloaded STadel from a BBS because I heard that the CP/M and IBM versions support networking, similar to Fido, and I assumed the ST version would as well. It doesn't. The ARCed file I downloaded was 400K and took 73 minutes to download at 1200 baud. It won't even fit on one single- sided disk. So, if you want that networking the way I did.. don't get your hopes up too high. Does anybody know when 'orc' *WILL* write it in? It doesn't seem as if it should be too tough, the code already exists.. -- Bill Wisner ..{sdcsvax,ihnp4}!jack!wolf!billw

It >doesn't seem as if it should be too tough, the code already exists.. Let me get this straight... You "once", (how long ago and from where?) downloaded STadel and you're warning people to "watch-out" because that version didn't have networking capability? Why??? STadel (Ver.3.x) has had networking capability for 4-5 months (if not longer). The cita-net works between IBM, Amiga, and ST versions of Citadel. I don't think that any of the CP/M Citadels are networking, but I honestly don't know for sure... (Usenet (UUCICO) mail-only capability is being worked on for STadel but not currently for IBM or Amiga versions, and will probably (knock on wood) be working in a few months.) Orc has done his job... Networking versions of STadel are running in several parts of the US and Canada. You should check in with the system where STadel is being developed and get a new version. The system is called Pell (don't ask me why..) and is at 612-377-9239. The only "problem", if one exists, is one everyone using share/free-ware should already be aware of. If you don't go to the source, there's a very good chance you might get an outdated copy. Flaming the hard-working author for problems he's already fixed is only likely to gain irritation and not much help... --- John Stanley (john@viper.UUCP) Software Consultant - DynaSoft Systems UUCP: ...{amdahl,ihnp4,rutgers}!{meccts,dayton}!viper!john

Well, I didn't think of it as a flame; but, then again, I'm not the net-at- large. I called Pell and got 3.0c, and it does have networking. Phew. It was only two weeks ago that I got the older version -- my source must have been some kind of turnip. Well, I retract my earlier comments. Now my only complaint is that I don't have Alcyon C (or ANY C) so I can't make a few cosmetic changes I would like to see done. Fooey. -- Bill Wisner ..{sdcsvax,ihnp4}!jack!wolf!billw

If you don't have the documentation, send me a note and I'll try to get a copy to you. Since you didn't mention any specifics, it's difficult to be of help beyond mentioning the following obvious points: Edit the CTDLCNFG.SYS file carefully with a progrmmer's text editor -- NOT A WORD PROCESSOR -- to configure the system to your liking. Make sure that the directory structure specified in CTDLCNFG.SYS accurately reflects what's available on your system. Run CONFIGUR.TTP from a command shell, such as Gulam, TSH, JSH, Pcommand, etc. It will read CTDLCNFG.SYS and create the necessary message base and index files. Run CITADEL.TTP, preferably from a command shell, with the program in the directory defined as #sysDir. When it is set up properly, STadel is very reliable and very powerful. /* * UUCP: {uunet!rosevax, amdahl!bungia, chinet, killer}!orbit!thelake!steve * ARPA: crash!orbit!thelake!steve@nosc.mil * #member <STdNET> The ST Developers Network */

Can anyone tell me where I can get the latest version of STadel, including all of the help and menu files. I would also like the sources. I tried snail and e-mail to David Parsons (sp?) but my mail must have missed him. If anyone has the latest version and could lharc it together and mail it to me, I would much appreciate it. jim.... charltn@ccu.umanitoba.ca

I'm looking for the most recent version of STadel, the Citadel BBS system for the Atari ST. Both Pell and The Lake are down, and apparently orc is no longer working on STadel. Any news about the current status of STadel would be greatly appreciated, and if you have a version more recent than the one which is currently up on GEnie's download area, I'd love to hear about it. Also, I'd appreciate any doors programs you might have for STadel. Will Doors from other Atari systems work with STadel? - Peter Sarrett zair@polari .sig in progress
