Gee, dunno for sure on that one, but Jim Allen has announced an '030 upgrade
for Mega STs. (Won't fit in anything else.) To be available beginning sometime
next month. Uses TOS 1.6, which is apparently fully compatible with the '030.
The base kit will use the regular ST's memory, and there will be another board
for using 32-bit memory. (No speed limit. If you can find 35ns DRAMs to fill it
with, you can run at 50MHz and zero (!!) wait states.) Sounds really good.
(Dunno how it's done, but he says the 32 bit RAM will be completely compatible
with everything else, e.g., accessible to the DMA controller, etc.) I guess
this is the result of all that time Jim Allen and Dave Small spent on the idea.
Cool stuff. This has been discussed for a while on GEnie; I just phoned Jim
earlier today to get details. There will also be a discount for current T16
owners. Dunno how much, I don't think any prices have been quoted yet.

 Hi Howard,
When I spoke to Jim at the Boston show, he said a price of ~$995 for the
bare 68030 @16MHz (Tos 1.62 included) board. A 68882 would be extra.
Faster clock rates would be available (also as upgrades) and the ram
expansion board would a small extra too.
The board looked great! It was very compact and still left the Mega's
expansion slot open for such things as the Moniterm or Appletalk (gimme,
gimme) boards. It fit towards the bottom of the Mega so you can't still
have an internal hard disk. The ram board would then fit between it and
the floppy. Good stuff. Jim was a really pleasure to chat with. Nice
guy.

 Marshall
