[comp.sys.atari.st] Gnu binaries at cs.uni-sb.de

david@doe.utoronto.ca (David Megginson) (11/15/90)

I have ordered the GCC binaries from cs.uni-sb.de three times, and the
archive has been contaminated (CRC error) every time. I DID set BINARY
mode each time (I never have problems with atari.archive). The following
files arrived each time:

	gcc-progs.zoo.aa
	gcc-progs.zoo.ab
	gcc-progs.zoo.ac
	gcc-progs.zoo.ad

However, when I enter

	cat gcc-progs.zoo.* > gcc-progs.zoo

on the Sun SparcStation, then type

	zoo -test gcc-progs

There is always a CRC error. Is the archive OK at uni-sb? Am I doing something
wrong? Thank you for any help.

I too have had problems with every version of gcc137 that I have gotten
my hands on!! Could someone who has successfully run gcc137 under TOS please
E-Mail me so I can talk to them??

I've just tested the zoo archive with the gcc binaries:
so be asured it is ok!
(I did exactly the same as you did - 'cat'enate and 'zoo -test')
The files were tested after ftp-ing from the archive machine to another
vax, but that's a very short connection. Apparently yours were broken
during transmission.
Btw. last week a dredger destroyed a cable near our internet backbone
in Dortmund, perhaps it has eaten a few bits :-)

Greetings,
   Wolfgang

Note: I'm not the one who's maintaining the archive, that's Edgar Roeder
who is also doing the ports of all the gnu stuff. Nice work, Edgar!
