Hi out there.
Two days ago I posted a message, that said, that the recently
announced web2c version 5.8a for TeX 3.1 and Metafont 2.7 also works
for the ST. I'm afraid I was a bit to fast in saying so.
I posted the article after just having finished a final cross
recompiling of Metafont in the good spirit that it would also work on
the ST, since TeX and most of the utility programs I tried, seemed to
work okay. (If I can say that without running the trip test. Several
document I run through TeX came out okay).
But sadly I made the experience, that Metafont wouldn't work
correctly. Inimf produces a dump of its interna. That works okay.
Virmf seems to be the problem. Virmf reads the dumped image correctly,
but before the first character of some font is generated, virmf aborts
with a "Bad culling amounts" error.
So, I have to say, that Metafont needs a little more debugging.
I'm very sorry for being a bit over enthusiastic and maybe getting
some hopes too high.
