Rich seems to have summed up the pro and con arguments to splitting net.music up quite well. I think this has gone on quite long enough, and if we don't stop arguing about it may well take over the lead for most megabytes wasted from spelling flames (or wombats, they seem to be tied right now). Therefore, I am proposing that we do the following: Absolutely nothing. Except, of course, to stop arguing about it. To say that there is not a clear consensus on the issue would be a minor understatement. What I have seen, though, is that the people arguing against the split seem to outnumber the people for the split (this is number of people, not volume of yelling, since I seem to be able to make up for three or four average flamers on a good day...) They have also brought up a number of things about the proposed split that could create long term problems for the topic. I don't believe them personally, but I also can't prove my beliefs to the satisfaction of those that are worried. My feeling is net.music is not broken, and the split was an attempt to improve it. Since we don't have a reasonable consensus on the improvement, the logical thing to do is nothing (If it ain't broke, don't fix it). My biggest worry right now is that if this conversation lasts too long, it will disintegrate into a name calling contest and everyone on net.music will stop talking to each other. Let's get back to discussing music now, fer gawds saik! -- From the house at Pooh Corner: Chuq 'Nuke Wobegon' Von Rospach {fortune,menlo70}!nsc!chuqui Have you hugged your Pooh today?
