[comp.sys.atari.st] ThinkJet Printer Driver for Spectre GCR

fay@wpi.WPI.EDU (Peter R Fay) (11/29/90)

Has anyone with a Spectre GCR found a MacIntosh printer driver for a
HP ThinkJet (not DeskJet) printer? I need one 'big time'. Does it work
properly through the parallel port?

Hi Pete,

There's a "dummy-up" switch on the back of the Centronics ThinkJet that turns
it into an Epson-compatible. It's one of the 8 DIP switches, number 4 or 5 if
my memory serves me.

The ThinkJet has two operating modes: PCL (or "HP mode") in the book, and
Epson (or "Alternate mode") in the book. The Epson mode works fine, except
that the dot spacing is 128dpi. Graphics works fine; it's just 25% (33%?)
smaller than you would expect.

Now, whether it works with MacPrint is another story!
