Has anyone had anyluck using a Seagate ST225 hard drive with a 520ST? (The drive is off of an IBM) smisra@eos.ncsu.edu

I've used an MFM (IBM segate ST 225 type...) harddrive, and it was a minor pain. I had to buy 1) Case/Power supply ($110 brand new... can be had for $70 I suppose) 2) Host adapter (ICD's ran $110 brand new...) 3) SCSI MFM HD Controller ($80 or more) 4) Misc cables... ($15-20) $315 Total cost $300 or more in addition th the mechanism. By going with an SCSI mechanism you save $10 in cables and $90 in the controller card... But if you can find an Ompti SCSI MFM controller or an Adaptec 4000A used... and Ditto for the other parts... you can save at least 50%... John Cummins cummins@d.cs.okstate.edu

Atari shipped a lot of them in the old SH204 "shoebox". It also had inside the case, a "host adapter" (I switched to ICD's), a power supply, and an Adaptec 4000A controller. At least, that's what was included in mine... > > smisra@eos.ncsu.edu Pierre Fortin Bell-Northern Research I know, my postings are Internet Systems P.O.Box 3511, Stn C terse and humourless. So? Most of the orginal Sh205's came with a ST225 as did the SH204's. So to answer your question yes it will work fine. | / /~~ Public Unix BBS 24hrs | Ban French |_/ /\ |~\ |~\ /\ | |~ | | /~ | (~ Auckland NEW ZEALAND | nuclear | \ \,\ |,/ |,/ \,\ | | |_| \_ | _) KC BBS: 09-817-3714 | testing in | \ | | \__ Voice: 09-817-5569 | Pacific

I use the Seagate ST296N with ST, no problems. If you have a proper SCSI-controller and software, there should be no problems. Your Seagate is SCSI??? To recommend something, I think the ICD Advantage is the best SCSI-controller for Atari ST, and the software is included in the package. *** Jari Lehto, jartsu@otax.hut.fi, s37837k@saha.hut.fi ***
