John.Bunch@samba.acs.unc.edu (John Bunch) (12/06/90)

Hello, I would like to know if it is possible to set up a kill file to
ignore message from specific people? Please respond via email.

Thanx

John

I have responded to John via e-mail, but I am sure that there are others
who would like to raise the tone of this news group, and one way to
do that is to filter out the static. My theory is that if nobody
answers the unpleasant message writers, they they will just go away.

So I will tell you what I have found to be useful.

While reading the news for a specific group, type CTRL K (to
edit the Kill file for that group), and add a line like

		/boo_hiss@machine.site.xxx/h:j

to the file. This has the effect (on my system) of marking as
read, any message that has that string in the header. In
particular, any messages from "boo_hiss" is marked as read.
When I am tired of reading the counter- flames that refer to
	"boo_hiss", I add the line

		/boo_hiss@machine.site.xxx/a:j

and then any message that contains this string anywhere in the
	message is marked as read.

I post this with the hope that some folks who might otherwise be discouraged
will persevere just a bit longer. On the whole, this group has been a big
help to me, and I hope it can be for others too.

I like it when folks are helpful to each other.
I hate it when folks make nasty jabs.
