[comp.sys.atari.st] Ghost mouse

jvl@idca.tds.PHILIPS.nl (J. van Loenen) (12/10/90)

Hi,

I recently bought a new mouse. (For the people in the Netherlands:
the ACN mouse, bought on the HCC days a week ago).
The mouse looks very similar to the microsoft mouse, but is a little bit
larger. Also the left button is twice as big as the right one.
It has a very long tail. (about 1.5 meters).
At the backside the following can be read: "mouse for the Atari 520ST
and 1040ST".

Now my problem: Sometimes (about once in 5 minutes) the cursor starts
moving while the mouse is not touched! Most of the time it starts moving
to the right, shifting about 1cm / sec.
I sure the table is stable enough. The cable does not lie close to
a transformer and/or electrifical equipment.
I have never had such problems with my original atari mouse.

Has anyone seen such mouse behaviour before? Or does anyone even has
a solution or idea about this?

Any help/tips/ideas are welcome,
thanks in advance,
	Jan

(Please respond by email if possible, I'll summarize).

I have problems with an Atari mouse. Usually at boot time. It drifts
off the right side of the screen. I use alt+ cursor keys to manually
move the mouse and it pops up on the left. I unplug/replug the mouse
and everything works fine. NOTE: This happens NO MORE than once a
month.

The same thing happens to me, I usually just wiggle the mouse plug and I regain
control. I guess after time the contacts start to go bad. You could try
cleaning the contacts if it bothers you.

I found the vibration from my hard drive system is just enough to send my mouse
scurrying to the side if I happen to leave my mouse _just_ right. I can't seem
to set it up to repeat the action but just *lifting* the mouse stops it right
away.
