[comp.sys.atari.st] FTP Problems adn Atari.Archive

weiner@terminator.cc.umich.edu (Jeff Weiner) (12/19/90)

Recently we've received some complaints concerning messages that
appear when you attempt to log on via anonymous ftp. The warning
says something like "host no longer available for ftp after Jan.1, 1991".

If you haven't reveived this message, and you've ftp'd here recently (within
the past week) don't worry. Continue to hum along merrily and smile.

The problem here isn't that atari.archive will not be available after
the new year. It's simply that our host is incapable of doing a reverse look up of your internet address.

The solution is simple, ask (no, demand) that your sys-admin properly
register your machine in the in-addr.arpa namespace.

Please don't send me mail concerning this matter. It's very simple. After
the first of the year, if our machine cannot look up your machine in the
in-addr.arpa namespace, you will not be allowed to ftp here.

Thanks and have a wonderful holiday season.
