[comp.sys.atari.st] STE SIMM upgrade

Hello,

I have a very simple question , but interesting though.
When you expand the memory of your 1040 STE with SIMM slots
( ie you have 4 x 256K SIMM modules ) to a 2 Mega-byte system
( ie you have 2 x 1M SIMM modules ), what are the two slots
that should stay unused among the four ?

On the board of my ST I can read near the SIMM slots :

              U 600
      +-----------------------+
      | simm slots |
      +-----------------------+
U 602 | |
      +-----------------------+
U 603 | |
      +-----------------------+
      | |
      +-----------------------+
	     U 601

Any ideas ,

Put your Simms into the First 2 slots, that is from the Front of the
machine, It is posible to use 2.5 megs, there have been posting that this
does not work, but I have seen it working, I don't know if the 2 megs
was in the Front or the back, but 2.5 megs does work on a UK STE, and
with out a Patch program...Please note Simms don't pull out , they pivot
them out to say 30 degrees, and just lift them out, no pulling at all
Note: you can use 9 bit simms, these have a better resale value, get the
fast 70ns ones, only do this if you intend to use them in a PC..
The Atari only need 8 bit , 150ns, the other bit in the 9 bit ones is
wasted, but then they could be used in a PC. Just a thought....
