[comp.sys.atari.st] Driving/Racing Simulators

Well, after upgrading my ST to 4 Megs, I found one program that
doesn't like the extra memory! It's a game called Test Drive,
by Accolade - it loads and runs, but you get two bombs as soon
as you crash your Ferrari Testarosa! So first your car crashes,
then the program does! Hmmm...

Test Drive actually does a good job simulating the acceleration
and other characteristics of actual sports cars. I was wondering
if anyone can recommend their favorite driving or auto racing
simulation games? I have heard of Lombard Rally, is that a good one?
I know I'm asking for too much here, but, ideally, I would like
to be able to run the game from my hard drive.

By the way, we ought to compile a list of games/programs that are
so badly written that they refuse to run when you ADD RAM to your
system!

Thanks in advance for any recommendations. Happy driving!

I had a similar experience with SDI.. it lets you install a Ramdisk if you
have a 1040... but ONLY a 1040 (1 Meg RAM, actually).

To get around this, I used an old program called MAKE1MEG.TOS (left over from
the early days of piggybacking RAM. Some programs assumed 512K and bombed if
run in 1 Meg, thus there was a pair of programs called MAKE512 and MAKE1MEG
to fool the ST into switching back and forth.)

It might be worth giving this a try with Test Drive also...

My favourite ST racing game has to be Stunt Track Racer. I think
it is called Stunt Car Racer in Europe.

I've never played Hard Drivin', but I've hear negative things about
that one. I personally would like a comparison between Stunt Track Racer
and Power Drift. Anyone have them both?

On a related note, Bad Company is pretty good shoot-everything-
that-moves game. I just love mindless violence. I was kind of disappointed
with F29 RETALIATOR though. Graphics are not too bad, but game play is
not very good.
