I've been playing around with a program called LiNK that purports to implement a level of MNP error-correcting and a companion program called Turbo2 that is supposed to provide real-time compression/decompression of data over a conventional modem connection. I've called a variety of modems -- Multitech, USR and a couple of Telebit T2500s -- but I haven't been able to initiate MNP of any sort. I'm calling with a 1200bps modem, using software that I wrote that doesn't do anything kinky. LiNK consistently reports ``host not responding.'' I had hoped to find LiNK communicating with firmware MNP. If it only works with other LiNK systems, it's not worth much. Has anybody on this net found LiNK useful? Any tips? ---- Steve Yelvington / P. O. Box 38 / Marine on St. Croix, MN 55047 USA INTERNET: steve@thelake.mn.org UUCP: plains!umn-cs!thelake!steve

I have it running on my BBS (which will be back up at the end of January). I like LiNK and I wish more people would use it, although some complain that there are a few problems with it. Some people have even used Ymodem-G successfully with it. People I've talked to (mostly on Fidonet) use LiNK without TURBO16.PRG because they blame TURBO16 for the problems. It's incredible, though, seeing something like 500cps on a 2400bps modem. Oh, and read the docs. ;^) It tells you that you need another system running LiNK and how to engage/disengage it. -- Ed Krimen ............................................... ||| Video Production Major, California State University, Chico ||| INTERNET: ekrimen@ecst.csuchico.edu FREENET: al661 / | \ SysOp, Fuji BBS: 916-894-1261 FIDONET: 1:119/4.0

Ed@ecst.csuchio.ed, This "link" program you refer to is it like the program S.Goss wrote in Germany for his mailbox / BBS? The only other version of mnp emulator I have seen is a program called mte215.zip which is an IBM/pc program for ms_dos only. Could you please send me some doc's or information on "link" please.
