Help! Being a new reader of this valuable newsgroup, I have missed all the helpful info of years past. I have an original 520 ST with TOS 1.0 on disk that I just recently unloaded from the closet to see if it was still alive. I obtained TOS 1.2 on ROM from a guy on this net, and it works, I think. I need some help and advice from y'all to determine if problems are the computer, the software or what. - My demo disk came with Atai basic (not ST basic?), and it won't do all the graphics commands. There is no buffered graphics option. - STwriter, junk, no manual, can you use this as a text editor? - STTalk won't run - Neochrome no good, I have a Monochrome monitor - Ulima III, 4 bombs - Others, get TOS error #35 (?) - TOS 1.2 in ROM, where's my desk accessories? VT52, Control Panel? Is my TOS right? Is it worth investing in games, languages, utilities, terminal programs? Will they even work? Ultima III didn't, CAD-3D won't run the animator...Is the single side floppy drive a joke? Is the double sided drive MS-Dos compatible? Or is it my 1/2 Meg RAM. I feel like advertising in rec.boats that I have a good anchor for sale. I'd like to get a good C compiler and a Basic that works but should I just save my money for a 386, Mac IIsi or even a NeXTstation? I'm in a quandry. Any help or advice will be appreciated. John Boyle
