I'm endevouring to explore level 5 on Dungeon Master 1 and have got stuck a couple of times. 1. There is a room filled with teleports which I have tried every possible permutation to get through and can't. 2. There is a room with many pits which appear and dissappear. I got myself into the chamber on the top right corner of the room but there appears to be another chamber on the top left. How do I get to it ? 3. There is a small room with a portculis door at the other end over to the right. The door is opened buy a green button round the corner and you stand on a pressure pad as well. To get to the button you go forward, right, forward, pull a lever, turn through 180 degs, through what used to be a teleport and press the button. The teleport is now back in position so you cant go through it and soon as you step off the pad the door shuts again. Help !!!!! Thanks for the rock monster advice. I'm geting the hang of it now although I feel the use of fireballs is cheating since ive not been given a fireball scroll yet ! John Upham, (Chemical Physics Ph.D) University of Sussex, Brighton, UK. In response to johnu@syma.sussex.ac.uk (John E Upham) : > I'm endevouring to explore level 5 on Dungeon Master 1 and have got > stuck a couple of times. > > 1. My notes are all at home, and I can't give you the exact N-S-E-W sequence, but this is how my son & I mapped out the room: Save the game, because your people will die of hunger before you get the room completely mapped out, unless you're lucky. Put the compass in somebody's hand, so you can always see it. The teleports are arranged in a checkerboard pattern all over the room. Standing at square 1, face north. Drop something, and note on the map what it was that you dropped. This will be the "landmark" that identifies square 1. Move any direction. (I'd suggest that you always move "north", until you find yourself running around in circles, or until you run out of unexplored areas of the room.) Call the next place you land, square 2. Drop something else there. BEFORE YOU MOVE AGAIN, turn around in a complete circle, and see if you can identify any landmarks or features in the room. Repeat this procedure until you have the whole room mapped out. In the end, you will find that a sequence like N-S-E-W-N-S-S (or something) deposits you in another chamber at the SW corner of the room. Note that a number of the teleports are "short cuts" back to square 1. This can be frustrating when you're trying to map the room, but a blessing when you've got flying snakes on your tail. > 2. How do I get to it ? Same way. I always put Leyla in my team. If I get stuck like you did, I just climb down her rope, walk through the teleporter and try again. > 3. You just need a little more help with your timing (I think). Try running backwards instead of turning and running. I don't remember how we solved this puzzle. I'll ask my son tonight. > Thanks for the rock monster advice. I'm geting the hang of it now > although I feel the use of fireballs is cheating since ive not been > given a fireball scroll yet ! My son and his best friend discovered a bunch of spells just by chanting syllables at random. If you pretend that that's what you did, then you can sooth your conscience a little. > John Upham, (Chemical Physics Ph.D) > University of Sussex, Brighton, UK. Oh, that's what PChem PhD's do for a living! :-) Enjoy the game. Regards Ray Depew DM 1990 IC's by Bill and Dave rrd@hpfitst1.hp.com ----------
