Firstly thanks for the level 5 suggestions. As it turned out the turnaround time (about two days) between posting a query and getting replies had allowed me to do those bits anyway on my own. Anyway I've moved onto level 8 or `the arena' as it's called and have concluded the level of difficulty has jumped an order of magnitude. The place is huge and the chances of being taken out by the fireball throwing machine seem a bit high. I know I can use a fireshield spell and I've found the Staff of Hanah which has its own fireshield but unfortunately I've been so slow the thing runs out of fireshield. Does it recuperate or does it only last a few goes ? Anyway, I presume there is a means of switching these sodding fireballs off or is there ? I'm told there is very very long corridor accessed by a secret door/room but I can't find the button/pressure pad for it. Can anyone give me some directions to this button from say the entry staircase from the Tomb of the Firestaff ? Thanks for any help. On the wall in the lower left corner of the arena(if you are facing out from the stairs) there is a switch on the wall. This switch opens up a secret area right next to it where there is another switch. This second switch turns off the first forceshield (the forceshields turn the fireballs making them seem to fly about at random). The fireballs will now slam harmlessly against the wall next to you. The fireballs originate in this corner. - Joshua

One of my most satisfying moments in the arena was when the Thief had a whole armload of my stuff and ran right into a fireball. -- Ray
