[comp.sys.atari.st] PCDITTO2 Fix

marshall@batserver.cs.uq.oz.au (Marshall Harris) (02/02/91)

I had a problem with PCDITTO2 (and PCD1), which is now fixed.
PCD2 ran OK, except it would not recognise the hard disk.
My H/d is a Megafile 20, with 2 partitions: C 14Meg, and D 6 Meg.
Mostly I use D for PC stuff.
PCD ran programs from floppy with no complaint, and allowed me to change
directory to C or D. But when I tried to run something - say "dir", from
C: or D: it gave the message "Divide overflow". Likewise if I tried to
access the hard disk while in an A: directory.
After much blood, sweat, and tears, and backups and reformats and
repartitionings and backup restores I fixed it, as follows.
The Mgafile manual advises that the Megafile 20 should be treated as an
SH205. PCDITTO2 AHDFIX says that it should be applied (AHDFIX.PRG, that is)
to SH204 only. Eventually I ran HDX to remove and then install the H/D
driver, and IMMEDIATELY after quitting HDX, ran AHDFIX. That did the trick!
I had tried, once before, in desperation, to run AHDFIX, but I hadn't
realised that it MUST be run IMMEDIATELY after running HDX or any of the
zeroing or partitioning or formatting processes.
BTW: PCD2 runs every PC program I have tried so far:
in particular: MSWORD, QUATTRO, QED, TurboPascal, all the compressor/archivers, Fastback, and many others.
But there are now much better PC emulators around.
Hope all this helps.
