I am interested in installing Mercury ST (Rodney's UUCP) on my ST. I have one question at the present time. How does one find a host to call? Is there a list of available hosts that will accept calls? Any info would be appreciated. -- Dean Lodzinski DEAN_L@TURBO.Kean.edu, lodzins@pilot.njin.net 47 Mercury Circle csra19@TURBO.Kean.edu or D.LODZINSKI on GEnie South Amboy, NJ 08879 Dean Lodzinski on Hologram Inc., FNET Node 133, USA at 908/727-1914 (1200/2400/9600)

Look in the newsgroup comp.mail.maps for the particular map(s) for your area. In the U.S., should be something like u.usa.[your state].1, u.usa.[...].2 and so on. Figure out what to call your site, and keep it unique (you don't want your mail being sent to another site that has the same name!). Only the first 6 characters (I think) are significant, to make matters worse. Using the map files, you should find a site close to yours and try to get a hold of the person or organization associated with it (each map entry has geographic as well as contact information), and ask them if they are willing to give you uucp access to their site. Hopefully, they will be acquainted with the details and will be able to supply you the correct information (number(s), password(s), etc...). Some of the bigger sites might have enough traffic already (or another reason) so as to be unwilling to provide you a feed. I don't think this should be a problem in heavily populated areas -- plenty of sites to choose from. It may improve your chances of getting a feed if you, in turn, are willing to provide mail feeds to other sites.
