[comp.sys.atari.st] TT in Memphis, TN

tony@tacky.cs.olemiss.edu (Tony Reynolds) (02/18/91)

Well, I played with a TT in Memphis, TN yesterday. It was pretty
fun. The store had:
TT030 (price: w/2MB RAM and 50MB HD, US $2,999 or $2,500, I don't
remember. I'd go with the higher price for now)
Mega 2 with Viking and SLM804(?)
1040
1040STE
Plain Mega 2

No MegaSTE, though. The store owner showed me the TT's desktop and it
was fun, but one thing I noticed was the redraw speed of window text
was a DOG! My 1040 with QuickST seems faster! Did Atari forget to
fix the drawing routines? The TT was connected to a SuperCharger, but
I couldn't find the Mess-Dos disk to boot the DOS part.

A few Amiga HAM mode pictures were converted to the new TT resolutions
(TT low?) and looked neat (better than Amiga, no color-wierd-things)

[ and no flames from the Amiga readers. OKAY?!?!]

The store owner said the problem was availablity. He can't get TTs.
Atari, maybe you should start paying attention: Could this be Demand?
Do you have an Economist? Or are you smarter than we all think you
are and are trying to drive the price UP?

(after years of being the only ST around for miles, I found a very
active user group in Mempho. I've known of them for a few years,
but the extent of their activity was unknown to me.)
