I've got a couple of questions about Spectre3.0 and the ten disk drive improvements that are listed in pp. 21-24 of the new manual. I'm sending this to Dave Small as well as posting to the net, since I know Dave is busy these days and may not be able to get around to answering...then again, maybe he'll even post an answer to the net...or maybe, someone on the net will be able to help out...OK, here goes: 1. First improvement: you can format Mac and Spectre floppy disks from inside the emulator. I assume you can only format Mac disks if you have GCR? 2. (still) First improvement: you can (re)format hard disk partitions from within Spectre. This is supposed to allow you to use disk fix programs. I suppose I'll be able to take advantage of these programs with my hard disk, but not with my Spectre format floppies, right? 3. Third improvement: New partition type (OOP) for hard disks. This is supposed to save and restore "parameter RAM". Does this mean I no longer have to use the program DiskPram (or whatever it is called)? 4. Finally, this is not directly related to a disk improvement, but concerns Tenth improvement indirectly. Does Spectre alone (i.e., without the GCR) support a Syquest cartridge formatted on a Mac? Well, thanks very much in advance for any replies...you can email me directly or post to the net. --Gerry ggreenbe@rodan.acs.syr.edu
