[comp.sys.atari.st] Multisync monitors on the Atari ST

thurlow@convex.com (Robert Thurlow) (02/22/91)

Well, shit. My Atari ST monochrome monitor went off to that great
bit bucket in the sky last night, and I can't do a thing with my
system. I'm going to get an idea on how much it'll be to fix it
(ha!) and scope out the price of new mono monitors, but I have
another sneaky idea: replacing it with a multisync monitor.

What experience have people had with multisync monitors on the ST?
I know they work, but which ones work the best, or which ones do
folks like the most? And how do I wire the sucker up properly if
I do buy one? (NB: properly == both mono and color at the flick of
a switch). If anyone has either a summary of this information or
any experience with a multisync, I'd be grateful for a copy, and
I'll post a summary of what I get. Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear about your monochrome monitor.

I have an NEC 3D connected to my STe and I love it. I'm using the IB
multisync switchbox since I'm not technically inclined to make my
own. I highly recommend it. Avoid Talon Technology's Omniswitch
like the plague! I went through three and they didn't work. They're
also put together with the cheapest plastic materials.

When I was searching for multisync info, I collected a lot. I arc'ed
it up and put it at atari.archive.umich.edu under the name of
MULTSYNC.LZH I think. There are also a couple of other files there
for multisyncs and STs, but I don't remember their names.

Good luck!

WuzTek sells a MultiSync monitor for the ST. I am not sure of the price,
but you can give them a call at (714)544-7888 and ask them about their
Omnimon Rainbow MultiSync monitor. I hope I helped you in your quest for
a MultiSync.
