For those who want the earliest access to a distribution kit of the current version of umoria (that's 5.2.2), it's spending a brief period before massive release on SCAT bbs, in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. Phone number (708)231-7227. It's packed up with the oldest version of arc I could find, so ANYONE should be able to unpack it. Compiled with Mark Williams C, but the space penalty that imposes was made up for by compressing the executable file. There don't seem to be any major bugs, but I thought that when I distributed 4.87, so why believe me? If you pick this up, please don't redistribute it beyond an immediate group that you can tell personally if a problem shows up. And by all means, if any problems show up, tell me immediately. At present, I plan to start spreading this around in a big way around Feb 10, unless something bad happens. I/O is still through a pseudo-curses that uses the VT52 emulator, so it works in any video mode that cooperates with the VT52 emulator (I think that's everything except 320 x 200 color). Again: I'll be sending this lots of places SOON, but this is a chance for the least patient people to get it early, and to catch machine-dependent bugs before they spread to too many copies. One all clear, anyway. The mystery bug I wasn't able to reproduce in the recently-distributed umoria was due to having slightly incompatible versions of the game share savefiles. Not the most likely situation in routine use. Steve
