[comp.sys.atari.st] Using Minix filesystems in MiNT!

david@doe.utoronto.ca (David Megginson) (03/01/91)

Guess what? The Minix ST demo disk just announced by Andy Tannenbaum in
this newsgroup sports a _working_ mkfs. I have made my D partition into
a Minix partition. Even though I don't have Minix, I can use MiNT 1.7
(the mintm.prg version), which supports Minix, and I have a partition
which can use filenames like y.tab.c or hack.tar.Z!!

WARNINGS:

1) KNOW what you're doing. I disconnected my main HD and tried it out
on my old Megafile 30. Even then, I ended up having to reformat the
whole thing (including the C partition) the first time around. Try
using the command on a floppy first.

2) Read all of the cautions in the MiNT distribution on using Minix file
   systems.

Happy hunting!
