thanx to the myriad folks you pointed out that GDOS font files are more or less identical to in-memory or .fed font file formats, just with all int/numerical data byte swapped (a la [braindead] intel - yuck :-). i have written a trivial byte-swapper for converting these files, and if i get a chance to clean it up, will post it. it should work in both directions. now, for those of u interested in nroff, read on. others can skip. i have decided to upgrade nroff to be more a ditroff rather than an nroff. this means support for lasers, filters, etc. it also seems the most current *roff technology. however, i was sort of thinking of using TeX fonts, to minimize the amount of font data on disk (for those with TeX anyway). this is not quite portable, however. would u prefer unix compatibility or common font data? hopefully i will still be able to support nroff-style documents (fixed width fonts) via the propper tab* and/or /usr/lib/fonts/dev*/* files (-Tcrt, for example). note that i know that there are probably ditroff config files for TeX and/or DVI, so this may be an alternative approach, too. some people have already sent me their wish lists (thanx). now is the time to enter yours. i am starting the rewrite now. -bill rosenkra@convex.com -- Bill Rosenkranz |UUCP: {uunet,texsun}!convex!c1yankee!rosenkra Convex Computer Corp. |ARPA: rosenkra%c1yankee@convex.com
