Does anyone know of a program for the ST that can compress and uncompress .Z compressed files. If there is one does it require a shell or anything to implement. I've been downloading some astronomical gifs that are huge and uncompressed with a 1200 baud modem and I'm getting desperate!!! Thanks in advance and for help in the past... Yes, I think there is a "compress" at atari.archive GIFs are already compressed using the same algorithm that "compress" uses. It's just that the files you have are probably BIG images, with lots of detail - there's no way around it. See if there is a IBM PC at your campus and FTP to 3.5" floppies (or kermit, or whatever). BTW compress is available from atari.archive.umich.edu. If I remember right, get the version stored as compress.zoo. -- Ralph P. Thanks to everyone who responded to my last post. I downloaded compress.zoo from atari.archive.umich.edu and it works great. I used it from within Okami shell and as an application (be sure to use lower case for the parameters). It sure helps to compress those UUE files!!! Thanks Again I.E Bou-saada
