I recently got a used Spectre 128, and I have a few questions. I am using Spectre 2.65 and system 6.0.3. 1. I have a 24-pin Nec P2200 printer, and I am looking for a printer driver. I am too cheap to buy one, so I am looking for a public domain one. I found someone who wrote one for panasonic 9 pin printers, and he has tried to convert it to work with my printer. The problem is that on every few lines, it gets messed up and starts rotating the bits vertically, so that on a line you see for example the bottom of a character above the top half. It does this for the rest of the line. The author is convinced that this is a problem with Spectre because it does not happen in the 9 pin version. It is acting like it is loosing some bits, so I was wondering if maybe there is some problem in the conversion from serial to parallel. Does anyone have any ideas? Or maybe know of another PD (or cheap) 24-pin printer driver? 2. Spectre gets an illegal instruction error (one that Spectre reports, not the Mac) when I try to create a postscript file using the laser writer printer driver from the chooser and using command-K or command-F. Does anyone know of a way to get this to work? 3. Does anyone know of a program that will let you have a picture on the desktop that works with Spectre?
