[comp.sys.atari.st] Timeworks DTP problems

pyr579@oz.plymouth.edu (Technoid) (05/02/91)

Hello,

I just purchased a monochrome monitor and have suddenly been unable
to use my Timeworks DTP program. I have a 1040STf, and am running DTP on
drive D: of my hard drive. I also use Neodesk ( 2.05 soon to be 3.0 ) and
Super Boot 7.0. I know it has to been reinstalled to switch to mono and I
did so. But FontWid.APP crashes while writing font widths and the PUBLISH.APP
program crashes on bootup saying "unable to load screen fonts". Anyone else
run into this? I only want to use it on my mono monitor now that I have one,
but am puzzled as to why it doesn't work.

Thanks,

	Stephan

Timeworks DTP will not run in mono and color without having
separate ASSIGN.SYS files for each. You may have to go back
and re-install it to get it to run in mono. I tried to get it to work
on both my color and mono monitors (so I could just switch back
 and forth) but no go.

You do not need separate assign.sys files. Find all of the monochrome
screen font files on your master disk and copy them to the folder
containing all of your GDOS font files. Then load assign.sys into
your text editor and look for the line "04p screen.sys". Type in
the list of all the monochrome screen font files after this line and
save this new assign.sys. Now Timeworks DTP will work in both medium
and high resolution. I did this and have never had any problems.--

On switching from color->mono w/Timeworks DTP.....

If all you want to do is run DTP in mono from now on, then the easiest thing
to do is reinstall the product from the master disks. Be sure to save off
anything you want first! Also, you must reinstall while using the mono
monitor. DTP doesn't ask you the monitor type, it just figures out what you're
using and installs the screen fonts accordingly. If you do this, you'll be
able to run in mono, but not in color.

If you want to be able to switch between mono<->color (why?????) The first
thing that I suggest you do is get G+plus from CodeHead Software. This little
gem will allow you to set up a different assign.sys file for each GDOS
application that you want to run, and these files can reside anywhere. It
also allows you to select the assign.sys file on-the-fly when an application
is started. More importantly, G+plus has special support for DTP that automates
the switching of the publish.wid file based on the assign.sys file selected.

Hope this helps.
