[comp.sys.atari.st] BART and how to get binaries

paulm@dorjam.UUCP (Owner and User) (05/13/91)

I don't know if I've got the directory stuff right. I was able to get
code from BART before the shutdown but haven't been able to since. I
received help and the index but when I try to get zest... nothing.
  I used the line:

    sendb emulators/zest.lzh

  Is this correct?
The directory structure (if any now) is not very clear with the new index
  style.

  Any help would be apreciated.
  Thanx in advance,
     Paul Moreau

Yes, so far so good.

However, since you're at a uucp site, you'll probably want to try
adding a path line, like the one you've listed in your .sig.

You really don't think so? I've clearly listed the beginning
of each directory with the name and a colon (i.e.'games:'),
and I've clearly marked the end of each directory with something like
'/end of games directory/'. Are others having this trouble with the
Index? Perhaps we should just nuke the whole thing and go back to an ls -lR??
I'd be interested in any feedback anyone has on this.

Just a reminder, if you are having problems with BART, you should send me
(jon@atari.archive.umich.edu) a message. Jeff handles just about everything
except BART, that's my domain.

I like the new system of Indexing, but I have problems getting files from
Bart sometimes. It would be nice if their were some examples in the
"help" file that detailed how to get files through the e-mail system.
I've been using commands of the format "sendb dir/filename.ext
aa,ab,ac,ad,ae" and then hoping I would get the file. One file that I
have been consistantly unable to get is Overscan 3. I just never get a
response. The new system of indexing is quite clear, though.

Please, I retract my statement about it not being to clear. At first I
thought it was clear then after not receiving anything back started to
think of reasons why. BART used to silently trash any bad requests so
I was under the asumption thats what it was doing.

   PLEASE KEEP THE NEW LISTINGS!

Thanx for the path advice, I'll try it.

The directory structure is really clear in the `CompInd.Z' file. I also think
that the missing of the binaries/sources entries makes the index file more
accessible for those who can access atari.archive only by e-mail.
