FSF's GNU project C++ is available (in not fully-debugged form) from a couple of FTP'able sites -- terminator.cc.umich.edu is one -- but from all reports it requires at least 2Mbytes to run, 4M to do anything serious, so an unex- panded 1040ST is not enough. If you have a Mega or have expanded your ST's memory, you might want to check it out. -- Max J mwjester@wsucsa

Does it exist? I hear rumors that Lattice or HiSoft are working on one. I'd be quite willing to work with a beta version. I have GNU C++ for the ST, but only the pre processor is working currently. Heimsoeth is apparently holding upgrade orders for 2.0 until they can fill them with 3.0 (at the same price, I'm told). SR Hearsay; I guess that cuts it as a real rumor now? :-) ---

I have ordered 2.0, and it is still not delivered. I would be very pleasantly surprised if I would find 3.0 C++ in my mailbox, but if not, I'll have to contact Heimsoeth to find out when my 2.0 arrives. -- Peter Mutsaers email: muts@fysaj.fys.ruu.nl Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht nmutsaer@ruunsa.fys.ruu.nl Princetonplein 5 tel: (+31)-(0)30-534504 3584 CG Utrecht, Netherlands

I have just purshased Lattice C Vsn 5 from HISOFT. In the manual it states that the -C flag on the compiler will place it into compatibility mode with the Lattice C++ front end. So could HISOFT be porting the C++ pre processor to the ST ? Am I the only one having to wait for 3 or 4 weeks now? If so, could anyone let me know? Then I can call Heimsoeth about it. If not, do you know why it is taking so long, and how long may it take? Has anybody a more or less complete list of C++ compilers implemented on the ST? I am also interessted in the full suppliers address and the prices of the products. I have heard of GNU C++. Is it a native compiler or only a pre-processor? Where do I get it as fast as possible? Martin "maba" Backschat

Greetings... I'm trying to find a C++ compiler for the Atari ST. I have a 1040 with 4 meg of memory and two DS floppies. I do not have a hard drive at this time, but I plan on getting one at some point. Does anyone know of a decent commercial C++ compiler for the ST? If not, does anyone know how to get G++ for the ST without having to recompile the whole mess? I don't want to attempt to recompile G++ without a hard drive, but I'm hoping that I can use it with the dual DS floppies and 4 meg. I would need the executables, libraries, and docs (including those for the debugger and whatever support stuff is necessary). Is this stuff available anywhere? I do not really have FTP access, just e-mail. Thanks for any and all help. Chris Johnson GE Simulation and Control Systems Department johnson@dover.dab.ge.com
