Hi, Currently, I own an unexpanded 520STfm with a total of 2 720K drives and believe it or not, for the moment anyways, it serves my needs fairly well. However, I'm thinking about the future and the possibility of outgrowing this machine (which has, allowing for some "trade-ins" from Atari, done everything I've needed it to do for the past 5 or 6 years) in the next few years. I will probably be doing much more "numerically intensive" computing work and some program development in the future as well TeXing reports and the like (which of course, right now I'm not doing on my 512K ST) along with the other "normal" applications. Anyway, the question is this: Should I save up to expand the memory up to 4 Megs, get a large hard disk and maybe replace the 8MHz 68000 with something else or is outgrowing this machine inevitable and I should save up for something else (perhaps a TT or some other sexy sounding UN*X box)? (In other words, by if I upgrade my ST, am I going to find myself having to abondon it anyway?) I know that I'm being difficult because I haven't been every specific about my situation. The only thing I'm sure about at this point is that I'm probably going to need more than my ST, as it currently stands, can deliver. Please reply by E-mail only!!! I do not want to start some sort of flame war, but I would like the advice of people who have perhaps already gone through this. So, please reply by E-mail only!!! If anyone is interested in the responses, write to me and I'll come up with a summary to mail back. Thanks... john chu@acsu.buffalo.edu
