About a month ago, a few people were wondering if there were any good MUSIC sequencing programs available for the ST. While a quality sequencer is of great value to many musicians, a convincing and workable NOTATING system is the hunt of many. A system which provides 64 track sequencing with real-time notation with real-time editing with real-time midi automated mixing and leaves you with 708K of RAM at boot-up time on a 1040ST... is called NOTATOR, the notation upgrade for C-LAB. Virtually any possible editing that can be done, can be done real-time. Both midi info and notation may be displayed simultaneously. As a matter of fact, you can play and record while watching your quantized score print to the screen! The print out, though not laser yet, is very 24-pin professional. I purchased my 1040ST in June of '86 specifically for my music studio, as i make my living teaching and performing... Having spent too many dollars on illogically-conceived programs, i was ready to give up on the idea... but along came NOTATOR, reason alone to buy an ST if you're a musician. Frankly, music software available on the MAC and IBM rather pale in comparison.... Those interested in more information about NOTATOR, MIDI-STUDIO, HYBRID-ARTS EZ-Score and DR.T's and MUSIC STUDIO may contact me.. .. i've tried them all kevin a360ad@blake.acs.washington.edu

I am also a fond user of C-Lab Notator. Does everything indicated in the base note, and is amazingly bug-free. My only real complaint with it is that it has a really confused (and combined) notion of triplets and dotted notes. Oh, you can get it to do what you want, but it takes a little getting used to. All in all though, a great program. _________ __ __ / ______ / / \ / \ R.M. Nothing I've seen on the Atari comes close to decent music notating. And I mean Steingerg Masterscore and C-lab Notator included. How come these star-programmers can spend, say, two years hacking away and never spending $20 for an elementary textbook on the basic rules for music notation. They make the most hideous errors. The psychology of this is completely beyond me. Yours puzzledly, Victor.

I use Dr T's Copyist and within its limitation of page size find it very satisfactory. It successfully handles problems such as polyrhythms, transposing instruments, movable clefs that other editors ignore and has provision for user-defined symbols to fill in the gaps they forgot about (like string articulation symbols). The finished results are quite indistinguishable from professionally printed music. It isn't really suitable for orchestral music because of the small page size, but for piano, organ and chamber music, as well as songs, it is perfect. --------Greg. --- * Via ProDoor 2.9a --- MaS Relayer v1.00.00 Via Fidonet node 1:223/224.0 - MaS Network Software and Consulting Internet: greg.trice@canremote.uucp UUCP: ...tmsoft!masnet!canremote!greg.trice

Victor et al, all the scoring program reviews here panned each program, but no one mentioned SuperScore v1.3. I would be very interested in peoples comparisons, since 1.4 is in the works. This program is sold by Sonus Corp. Mike

Does anyone know of any music software that I can get via ftp. I'm mostly interested in editing and printing special arrangements, but would like to look at anything that is available. Bill Martin
